1. Policy Statement

This policy outlines how the Al Ghad Training Institute (GTI) supports its trainees through their learning progress by provision of clear progression pathways between its programmes and courses. Learning progression at GTI is done through access to qualifications, recognition of prior learning (RPL) and/or credit award. GTI is committed to monitor the trainees course progress and will implement interventions to provide support to all its trainees.

2. Definition of Terms

  1. Learning progression pathways are structured routes situated in between programmes for the purpose of providing support for learners.
  2. Articulation is the process where institutions matches their courses or requirements to course work completed at another institution. Course articulation is done to assure that courses completed will not have to be repeated at the institution to which students are transferring.
  3. Credit refers to a recognition of a unit of learning, measured in hours of study or achievement of a minimum acceptable performance standard or maximum allowable limit. Credit may also be measured by both. One (1) credit is equated to ten (10) notional hours of learning.
  4. Credit transfer refers to the relocation of credits towards a qualification or programme or the same different level, usually between different programmes, departments or even institutions.
  5. Notional hours refers to the total amount of time required for an average learner to achieve the defined learning outcomes, that include face-to-face contact time, work-integrated learning, and time provided for completing assignments, research and completing assessments.

3. Scope

This policy covers all programmes and qualifications of GTI where the implementation of progression pathways may be determined.

4. External Requirements

This policy helps GTI meet the following external requirements of:

  • Education and Training Quality Authority (BQA), Bahrain
  • Directorate of Institutes Affairs, Bahrain Ministry of Labor
