1. Policy Statement

  • The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all employees and trainees are provided with key information on what is expected at GTI, including policies, procedures, compliance requirements and legislation associated with their employment or enrolment through an appropriate induction program. The induction has a strong focus on rights and responsibilities, as well as health and Safety.
  • GTI aims to be a centre of excellence for training in Bahrain, and beyond. This vision requires that our Induction activities reflect our values of care, respect, and inclusivity, and align with our strategic and operational objectives, enhancing our commitment to being a first-choice employer and destination for trainees.
  • GTI will ensure that all staff members and trainees are provided with a robust and empowering induction and provided with the information required to be successful in their roles or programme of study. Newcomers will be made to feel part of the GTI family, and provided with the necessary support required to ensure that they make a smooth transition to this next step in their career. Contractors to GTI will also be provided with information about policies and procedures affecting their work within GTI premises.

2. Application and Delegations

  • This policy applies to all staff, trainers, trainees, and contractors.
  • It is the responsibility of all managers (Heads of Sections and coordinators) at GTI to make sure that guidelines and associated procedures stated in this policy are followed in the activities under their authority.

3. External Requirements

  • This policy and associated procedures help GTI meet the requirements of government quality assurance agencies, such as the Education and Training Quality Authority (BQA), and the Bahrain Directorate of Institutes Affairs, Bahrain Ministry of Labour.
  • They provide assurance to industry partners and other stakeholders that GTI is a quality training provider, committed to continuous improvement of all its activities and operations.
  • Its explicit focus on health and safety and rights and responsibilities helps GTI meet the requirements of funding bodies such as Tamkeen and MoLSD, as well as those of professional accreditation agencies, such as Awarding bodies.
  • This policy allows for international acts, regulations and guidelines to be used for guidance purposes for aspects of policy not covered by existing Bahrain legislation.

4. What is Expected

4.1 The following principles underpin GTI’s expectations regarding the induction of new staff and trainees. Induction at GTI will:

  • ensure new staff and trainees feel welcome and part of the GTI family.
  • familiarise them with the institute, including an introduction to the GTI’s values mission and vision, and its strategic priorities, and significant policies and procedures.
  • provide health and safety information, including what to do in the advent of an unforeseen crisis.
  • providing information to:
    1. enable new staff to perform their key responsibilities and assist with workplace adjustment
    2. enable new trainees to understand what is expected of them in their role as students in internationally recognised qualifications, and their rights in terms of support and fair treatment
  • encourage commitment and alignment to GTI’s values, and passion to contribute to outcomes which advance both GTI and their own personal development to realize their potential and fulfil career aspirations.
  • provide a pathway for continuous learning and development, ensuring new staff and trainees are clear about the expected standard of performance and behaviours.
  • ensure information and advice is in accordance with any Bahrain legislation and regulations that drive the requirements of policy.

4.2 In accordance with GTI’s code of conduct, it is the duty and responsibility of GTI to:

  • maintain the highest ethical standards.
  • strive for excellence and innovation in its performance and activities.
  • comply with all applicable government laws and regulations
  • manage and resource training appropriately and maintain adequate documentation about decisions.
  • be aware of conflicts of interest and address them to make sure that performance is not unduly influenced.
  • avoid involvement in any activities or actions that are inconsistent with the laws and regulations of the Kingdom of Bahrain or the regional countries.
  • offer short courses and programmes to all citizens who meet their stated requirements regardless of race, colour, religion or gender.
  • comply with the Kingdom of Bahrain laws and regulations in its accounting policies and procedures and maintain strong internal controls.
  • adhere to health and safety practices and comply with the relevant government laws and regulations.
  • report any identified cases of fraud, misconduct, dishonesty, or neglect of duty to the relevant government authorities.

4.3 All new staff and learners will be notified of these institutional requirements, which affect GTI’s expectations and other requirements, through staff/trainee inductions.

4.4 All contractors will be informed of the policies and procedures, especially Health and safety, prior to commencement of their services.
